Newaygo County, Michigan

Newaygo County is a county located in the state of Michigan in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is White Cloud.

Geography

The County is located in the east of the Lower Peninsula of Michigan, just 35 km away from Lake Michigan and has an area of ​​2231 square kilometers, of which 49 square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Lake County, Mecosta County, Montcalm County, Kent County, Muskegon County and Oceana County.

History

Newaygo County was formed in 1840 from parts of Mackinac County and Oceana County. It was named either after an Indian chief or after the Indian word meaning plenty of water.
