Newbery Medal

The Newbery Medal is an American literary prize, which is since 1922, awarded by the Association for Library Service to Children, a subgroup of the American Library Association. Together with the Caldecott Medal, this price is the most prestigious award for children's literature in the United States. The Prize is named after John Newbery, a journalist of the 18th century and installer of the first libraries, named. Before 2000 ( Michael L. Printz Award) he included both children's books and young people's books.

There are awarded every year a grand prize ( Newbery Medal ) and several honorary awards ( Newbery Honor ).
