Newmarket is a market town in the English county of Suffolk. It is located about 110 km (65 miles) northeast of London and is equipped with 14,995 inhabitants ( 2001), the largest city in the district of Forest Heath.

Horse racing can be dated back in Newmarket to the year 1174. Newmarket has two racecourses, the Rowley Mile, a good 2,000 m long, slightly uphill straight, held at the spring and autumn, and the July Course, which in the summer races. During the two world wars and all the Classic races were not held to their traditional places here.

In Newmarket is located next to the headquarters of the British Jockey Club, founded in 1750 a museum of horse racing ( see Related links ) and an account opened by Queen Elizabeth II breeding center for English thoroughbred.
