Newport is a city in the U.S. state of Maine in the United States of America. It is located in Penobscot County. The population at the time of the census of 2010 was 3,275 inhabitants.

History

Originally, the region was inhabited by Abenaki Indians. Fish and game presented always the livelihood dar.

The first white men who came to the area now Newport, were hunters and fishermen, who were staying over the summer there. The first permanent settlement was established in 1804. Hunting and fishing were initially the most important sources of income.

When Newport was officially founded in 1814, it had about 100 inhabitants. Over time, a broader economic development. Newport was food and textile industry and its station until 1900 to a sub- center in the region.

Economy and infrastructure
