Newport Pier

The Newport Pier is one of two piers in Newport Beach in the U.S. state of California. The historical building is centrally located on the so-called Balboa Peninsula and extends approximately 314.6 meters in the Pacific Ocean into it. The impressive wooden structure is registered as California Historical Landmark No. 794.

The pier is a place for fishing, strolling and eating. At the outer end there is a restaurant. From Newport Pier can overlook the city and watch the many surfers. In the building at the base of a Lifeguard unit of the Newport Beach Fire Department is housed.

Located at the foot of the pier is the Dory Fishing Fleet was founded in 1891. Located directly on the beach fishing fleet is in the region of one of the last of its kind A little further east is the Balboa Pier, another pier.

History

The original Kaianlange at this point was called McFadden Wharf. She was named after James and Robert McFadden, who then owned the surrounding land. The ship pier was completed in 1889 and served as a trading post. A little later she received a railroad connection. The plant served to supply the Orange County, San Bernardino County and Riverside County.

Ins 1906, finally fell the founding of Newport Beach. From now on, the Newport Pier played a significant role in the further development of the city. Between 1902 and 1910 William S. Collins bought from the McFadden large parts of their possessions because he recognized the tourist potential of the area. In the subsequent period, the area became increasingly developed.

Today, the pier is a popular leisure destination for locals and tourists. From many different angles there is a magnificent view over the sea and the coastline of Orange County.
