After the establishment of Slovakia 1993, the Agency used the name Tlačová agentúra Slovenskej Republiky - Slovakia. She was pure state. To counter allegations of distortion of competition in relation to the private agency SITA, founded in 1997, it was on 23 September 2008 with the Law 385/2008 Zz vice founded as a public independent media institution.
