Newton County (Arkansas)

History

2000 2010

The Newton County was formed on December 14, 1842 from parts of Carroll County. It was named for Thomas W. Newton (1804-1853), a senator in Arkansas (1844-1848) and short-term members of the U.S. House of Representatives (1847 ).

The first school was founded in 1860 in Mount Judea. 1886 was added at the Western Grove Academy.
