Newton County (Georgia)

The Newton County is a county located in the U.S. state of Georgia. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Covington.

Geography

The County is located in north-central Georgia, has an area of ​​723 square kilometers, of which seven square kilometers of water surface, and borders clockwise to the following counties: Walton County, Morgan County, Jasper County, Butts County, Henry County and Rockdale County.

History

Newton County was formed on November 30, 1858 as the 53rd county in Georgia from portions of Henry County, Jasper County and Walton County. It was named for John Newton, a hero of the Revolutionary War.
