Newton County (Missouri)

The Newton County is a county located in the U.S. state of Missouri. In 2010, the County had 58 114 inhabitants and a population density of 35.8 inhabitants per square kilometer. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Neosho, which was named after the Native American term for clear, cold water.

Geography

The County is located almost in the extreme southwest of Missouri in the Ozarks and on the west by Oklahoma, and Kansas; in southern Arkansas is about 35 km away.

It has an area of 1623 square kilometers, of which 1 square kilometers of water surface.

History

The Newton County was formed in 1838. It was named after John Newton (1755-1780), a hero and an officer in the American Revolutionary War.
