NGC 1300

NGC 1300 is the name of a barred spiral galaxy in the constellation Eridanus. NGC 1300 has a diameter of about 115,000 light years and is located at a distance of 21 megaparsecs ( 70 million light years). The galaxy has a brightness of 10.3 mag and an angular extent of 6.0 '× 3.3 '. NGC 1300 is a striking example of a barred spiral galaxy. The Centre of the galaxy has an interesting spiral structure having a diameter of approximately one kiloparsec.

The galaxy NGC 1300 was discovered on 11 December 1835 by the British astronomer John Herschel.
