NGC 1313

NGC 1313 is the name of an irregular galaxy in the constellation network. NGC 1313 has a brightness of 9.1 mag and an angular extent of 9.1 × 7.1 arcmin. Striking is the irregular shape of the spiral arms, whose axis of rotation is also not exactly in the center. In the vicinity of NGC 1313 is another galaxy, which is known as NGC 1313A. In NGC 1313, a supernova was spotted so far: SN 1987k.

The galaxy was discovered on September 27, 1826 by the Scottish astronomer James Dunlop.
