NGC 147
NGC 147 is the designation of a dwarf galaxy in the constellation Cassiopeia. NGC 147 has an angular extent of 13.2 '× 7.9 ' and an apparent visual brightness of 9.4 mag. It is a companion galaxy of the Andromeda galaxy and, together with NGC 185 a pair.
Discovery
The dwarf galaxy was discovered on September 8, 1829 by the German - British astronomer John Frederick William Herschel. The membership of the local group was confirmed in 1944 by Walter Baade, as he could of individual stars with the 100 -inch telescope at Mount Wilson Observatory.
