NGC 1560

NGC 1560, also known as IC 2062, is a spiral galaxy in the constellation of the Giraffe in the Maffei group.

The galaxy has an apparent magnitude of 12.2 m and was discovered by William Temple on August 1, 1883.

The distance measurement using the method of cosmological redshift is not applicable due to the relative proximity of this spiral nebula. It has a negative radial velocity of -35 km / sec. About other methods you came to estimates of the distance 5 to 15 million light- years until recently. The latest, most accurate results come at a profit of 10 to 12 million light years. With this distance, however, the galaxy is no longer part of the Local Group.

Derived from the removal of a part, and the apparent size of 11.6 × 1.9 arcmin on the other hand results in a diameter of this galaxy about 35,000 light-years.
