NGC 1569

NGC 1569 is a dwarf galaxy, which is about 11 million light -years away from Earth. In her escape- like stars form, called starbursts. A distance measurement based on Hubble Space Telescope data from 2007 resulted in a correction of the range by about 4 million light-years and showed that NGC 1569 is a member of a group of ten galaxies around IC 342 ( Maffei group). The gravitational interaction with the other members of the group is regarded as a trigger of starbursts.

NGC 1569 was discovered on 4 November 1788 by the German - British astronomer William Herschel.
