Nguru (Nigeria)

Nguru is a town and Local Government Area in Yobe State, Nigeria.

Geography

Nguru bordered to the north Yusufari, to the east by Karasuwa, in the south of Guri, in the west on Biriniwa and to the northwest by Machina. The main town of Nguru is about fifty kilometers from the border with Niger. Southeast of Nguru - Hadejia extend the Nguru wetlands. The annually recurring flooding of wetlands are essential to the practice of population sectors agriculture, grazing and fishing. They also fill the Grundwassereservoire again, of which the city depends. To the south is the 37 km ² Nguru Lake, which by its abundance of fish has an important role in the diet of the local population.

History

Nguru was a province of the empire of Kanem -Bornu. Beginning of the 19th century threatened the expansion of the Caliphate of Sokoto under Usman dan Fodio the kingdom troops from Nguru called for help. The ruler of Nguru tried to become independent during the war of Kanem -Bornu, but was only supported in the ruler of the province Mounio and had no success. In Zinder, another province of Kanem - Bornus, began in 1893, reign of Sultan Amadou dan Ténimoun. The Sultan conquered first Machina and then Nguru, where he began a new ruler.
