Ngurungaeta
Ngurungaeta is a word from the language of the Wurundjeri Aboriginal people, it means leaders and tribal leaders. In Australia, the term is used elders ( tribal elder ) for it. The term Ngurungaeta has the same meaning as in the Arweet Bunurong and Wathaurong - Aboriginal people. There were 15 currently known Ngurungaeta in the history of the Wurundjeri. The last traditional Ngurundgaeta was William Barak, the current means Murrundindi and is a descendant of William Barak.
Ngurungaeta were:
- Bebejan - as a child was at the signing of Batman's Treaty in 1835 while his father was Billibellary.
- Billibellary, (1799-1846) - Ngurungaeta of the Wurundjeri - Willam clan, signer of Batman's Treaty
- Simon Wonga (1824-1874) - Ngurungaeta and son of Billibellary
- William Barak (1824-1903) - the last traditional Ngurungaeta the Wurundjeri - Willam clan, son of Bebejan
- Robert Wandoon (1875-1908) - appointed Ngurungaeta by William Barak
- James Wandin (1933-2006) - Ngurungaeta Wurundjeri
- Murrundindi - Ngurungaeta appointed after the death of James Wandin 2006
