Niani District
Niani ( spelling variant: Niani Kuntaur ) is one of 35 districts - the second highest level of administrative divisions - the West African nation of Gambia. It is one of ten districts in the Central River Region.
According to a calculation by 2013 there live about 24 806 inhabitants, the result of the last published census of 2003 was 22,242.
The name is derived from Niani, a former small kingdom.

Population
According to a survey of 1993 ( former census ), the largest population group, the Mandinka with a share of about three -tenths, followed by the Fula and Wolof. The distribution in detail: 34.6 % Mandinka, Fula 31.5%, 30.5%, Wolof, Jola 0.4 %, 0.3% Serahule, 0.4% Serer, Aku 0.2 %, 0.2 Manjago %, 1% and 1.1% Bambara other ethnicities.
