Nicholas Humphrey

Nicholas Keynes Humphrey ( born March 27, 1943) is a British psychologist. He was until 2008 a professor at the London School of Economics and at the New School in New York City.

Life

Humphrey visited the 1956-61 Westminster School. His B. A. (1964) and his Ph.D. (1968 ) in psychology, he received from the University of Cambridge. He has held professorships at the University Cambrdige, Oxford and the London School of Economics. He studied under mountain gorillas with Dian Fossey in Rwanda. His works of evolutionary psychology has received numerous awards ( the Martin Luther King Memorial price, Pufendorfmedallie and the British Psychological Society 's Book Award).

Work

Humphrey has written 1967-1998 over 100 scientific publications.

Family

Humphrey is the son of Immunologists John H. Humphrey and his wife Janet Humphrey (nee Hill ), is the daughter of Nobel Laureate Archibald Hill. John Maynard Keynes is his great uncle. Later he was married to Caroline Waddington, daughter of CH Waddington. After the separation, he lived with Susannah York. Later he married Ayla Kohn with whom he has two children.
