Nicholas Schenck

Nicholas M. Schenck ( born November 14, 1881 in Rybinsk, Russia, † March 4, 1969 in Florida) was a founder of the film industry in Hollywood.

Life

Nicholas Schenck was the CEO of Loew's, Inc., and its known subsidiary, the film production company Metro -Goldwyn- Mayer. Schenck remained in New York City and was the manager of Louis B. Mayer, the vice president of MGM. In the 1950s, Schenck fired Mayer; shortly thereafter he went into retirement.

Overall Schenck led at least 100 companies, referring one of the highest salaries in the former film industry. Some sources claim he was during the thirties of the eight richest man in America.

Nicholas Schenck's brother Joseph Schenck was also active in the film industry, including at the head of United Artists and 20th Century Fox.

Private life

Schenck was married twice, most recently with Pansy Wilcox, sister of director Fred M. Wilcox. He is the father of three daughters.
