Impact crater

Nicholson Lake is a lake in the eastern part of the Northwest Territories in Canada. It is located near the border with Nunavut halfway between Great Slave Lake and Hudson Bay.

The circular lake has a diameter of about 10 km on a larger island in its center and an even larger peninsula in the western part of the lake. Immediately to the south of the lake is the Lake Markham, through which the river flows Dubawnt. At the northeast end of the lake of the River Dubawnt Nicholson Lake leaves again and flows 40 kilometers away with much larger Dubawnt Lake and continue towards Hudson Bay.

The lake is located in an impact crater, estimated its original diameter to 12.5 km and its age to less than 400 million years ( Devonian). The crater is not visible on the surface.
