The Nicholson River is a river in East Gippsland in Victoria, Australia. Its catchment area is between those of the Mitchell River and the Tambo River. The river is 72.5 km long.

The source is located in the Angora Range ( on the west side of Mount Baidhead ) in the foothills of the Australian Alps to the west Ensay. It flows in a southeasterly direction through the small town of Nicholson and flows into Lake King, one of the Gippsland Lakes.
