Nick McCarthy

Nicholas Augustine McCarthy ( born December 13, 1974 in Blackpool, England) is a guitarist, backing vocalist, keyboardist and songwriter of the band Franz Ferdinand.

Nick McCarthy was born in England, but he grew up in the Bavarian vague. As a teenager, he stole a car with friends and wore since the nickname " McCarthief " ( thief thief = ). He finished high school in Bad Aibling and studied the double bass at the Richard Strauss Conservatory in Munich with Paulo Cardoso.

McCarthy played before the breakthrough with Franz Ferdinand in the bands Razzmatazz, Embryo, Kamerakino and the Djaosch Macholi orchestra.

In 2001, then he moved to Glasgow, where he met the singer Alex Kapranos at a party, but in an attempt to steal his vodka, which the naturally displeased. But rather than falling into dispute, Alex asked Nick if he could play the drums and wants to play in his band.

He said, but had no idea of Drums, what the rest of the band was the latest when samples clearly. However, as McCarthy was a talented songwriter and musician, exchanged ado Paul Thomson his guitar against drumsticks. With bassist Robert Hardy, the band was then complete.

Since 2 July 2005, he is married to the Austrian Manuela glad precious. Among other things, his wife is also involved in his current side project Box Codax.
