Nick Rimando

Nicholas "Nick" Rimando ( born June 17, 1979 in Montclair, California) is an American football player.

He currently plays for Real Salt Lake in Major League Soccer.

Youth and College

Rimando attended Montclair High School and then played two years for the UCLA Bruins at the University of California, Los Angeles. In 1997, he won with the team the College Cup. After his sophomore year, he signed a Project -40 contract with Major League Soccer.

Club career

Rimando came across the MLS SuperDraft 2000 Miami Fusion and took over in a short time the position of the goalkeeper from the previous keeper Jeff Cassar. In his first year he was in 22 games on the court. In his second year he had 25 missions and won with the team the MLS Supporters' Shield. After fusion had disbanded after the 2001 season, he moved to DC United.

For United he made in the 2002 season, every game. In 2003 he graduated just 25 games since he was sidelined injured at the end of the season. In 2004, he lost his place to Troy Perkins. In the next two years, he moved with Perkins every now and then. In his last season for DC he made only two games.

He changed on 11 December 2006 together with Freddy Adu to Real Salt Lake. He was further transferred on 9 February 2007 on the New York Red Bulls, but was brought back on February 23, as the former goalkeeper Scott Garlick surprisingly announced his retirement. During his 2007 season, Rimando was the first choice in the gate of Salt Lake. The team returned from two no superior performance, but Rimando showed during the season consistent and good. He made 146 saves in 27 games and was the best goalie in the league. At the end of the season he was voted the best player of Real Salt Lake.

In 2008 and 2009 he was also goalkeeper of the team. In July 2008 he was elected to the MLS Player of the Month. Due to his excellent work in MLS Cup 2009, he was voted the best player of the game.

National

Rimando 1999 she took part in the FIFA World Youth Championship, where he was reserve goalkeeper behind Tim Howard there. His first cap for the U.S. national soccer team, he completed 17 November 2002 against El Salvador. After this game, he has long been ignored. Due to his good performances during the MLS season in 2009 he came again into the focus of the national team. He took as part of the preparation for the Soccer World Cup 2010 in several courses of the national team, but was still in fourth place behind Howard, Brad Guzan and Marcus Hahnemann.

Trivia

Rimandos father is of Filipino origin, his mother is from Mexico.

In December 2005, he married his longtime girlfriend Jacqui Little. Little also played football and indeed for the Washington Freedom in the now-defunct Women 's United Soccer Association. The wedding was performed by his teammate Ben Olsen on a beach in Malibu. Meanwhile Nick and Jacqui have a son named Jett Nicholas Rimando.
