Nicklas Jensen

Nicklas Jensen ( born March 16, 1993 Herning ) is a Danish -Canadian professional ice hockey player who is since September 2011 at the Vancouver Canucks of the National Hockey League under contract and since 2013 in the Utica Comets in the American Hockey League on the position of the right winger plays. His father Dan Jensen was also a professional hockey player.

Career

Jensen, whose Canadian-born father, Dan moved to Denmark in 1989 and later adopted the Danish nationality, was released in 1993 in Herning to the world. There he played in his youth in the hockey junior department of Herning IK. For this club and his father had spent his entire professional career in Denmark. In addition, he played until the age of 14 also football.

At the age of 15 years came Nicklas Jensen in the U20 selection of Herning IK to permanent missions. In the 2008 /09 season he reached 28 goals in 28 games and another 15 assists. Two more missions team scores a goal followed in the play-offs. His exceptional talent were honored by the club with the first appointment to the second seniors team. There he played in the second-class first division in four games and scored three goals. Danmarks Ishockey Union, the Danish Ice Hockey Federation, awarded him finish the season as the best Under-17 striker in the country.

Before the start of season 2009/10, Jensen was included in the squad of the first seniors team, which was located in the AL Bank Ligaen. The striker came in 34 of the 36 season games for use and posted it 26 points, with which he was behind Thor Dresler 's second best scorer of the club. In the play-offs, which secured the Blue Fox for third place in the championship, followed by an additional ten points in ten games. At the end of the season Jensen received the award for the league rookie of the year. The talent of the attacker had not gone unnoticed by the Scouts of the Canadian Hockey League and as the Oshawa Generals selected him in June 2010 in the first round of the CHL Import Draft 2010 at the eighth position.

Born in Denmark, then joined in the summer of 2010, the Generals to and completed his first season in the Ontario Hockey League. This he finished with a nomination for the CHL Top Prospects Game in January 2011, the appointment to the Second All- Rookie Team OHL and 58 points in 61 games. In the ten games until leaving in the second round of the play -offs against the Niagara IceDogs were added a further eleven points. Consequently, Jensen was selected in the NHL Entry Draft in 2011 in the first round at 29 out of the Vancouver Canucks. The end of September 2011, the power forward was invited to the training camp of the Canucks and immediately signed an entry-level contract for the National Hockey League with a term of three years. At the beginning of October the management of Vancouver for further development sent him back to the Oshawa Generals in the OHL.

Internationally

Jensen represented his native country Denmark at the U18 World Junior Championships Division I 2009 and 2010. For the U20 Juniors he played in the U20 World Junior Championships Division I 2010 and 2011, and after a successful ascent in the U20 Junior world Cup in 2012.

In the U18 Junior World Championship Division I 2010 he was named the best striker in the group A. With 13 goals, he was also the top scorer of the tournament with 15 points scorer behind Norwegian Sondre Olden second highest points scorer. The U20 Junior World Championship 2012 joined Jensen from the best scorer of the Danish team relegation to Division IA.
