Nicola Pietrangeli

Nicola " Nicky " Pietrangeli ( born September 11, 1933, Tunis ) is a former Italian tennis player.


Pietrangeli won in 1959 and 1960, the individual title at the French Championships. Also in 1961 and 1964, he reached the finals, they lost to the Spaniard Manuel Santana. On Lawn 1960 he succeeded to the semi-finals of the Wimbledon Championships, the greatest success.

Pietrangeli is still the most successful player in Italy's Davis Cup history. So he scored 1954-1972 no less than 120 victories in singles and doubles, with 66 appearances, he is also a record player in his country. 1960 and 1961 he reached the final of the Davis Cup, the Italian team, however, had each beaten by Australia. As captain, he led Italy in 1976 to win the Davis Cup.

1986 Nicola Pietrangeli was inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame.
