Nicolae Ungureanu

Nicolae " Nae " Ungureanu ( born November 11, 1956 in Craiova ) is a former Romanian football player and current coach. He played a total of 437 games in the highest Romanian football league, the Divizia A and participated in the European Football Championship 1984.

Playing career

Ungureanu began his career in the youth team of CSS Craiova and moved at the age of 18 years to Electro Craiova, which played into the second-class Divizia B. There, the local rivals Universitatea Craiova became aware of him and took him in 1977 under contract. At Uni Craiova he experienced the most successful period of the club: he won there in 1980 and 1981, the Romanian Cup and in 1978, 1981, and 1983 the Romanian Cup. In the European Cup, he reached the semi-finals of the UEFA Cup, where the team was eliminated only on away goals against Benfica in the 1982/83 season.

In 1987, he left and joined Craiova Steaua Bucharest, one of the best in Europe at that time clubs, at. National

Coaching career

Despite his success his contract with Universitatea Craiova was not renewed and Ungureanu took iNTernational Piteşti in Divizia B. After two years he had Piteşti in 2003 to leave. In 2004 he took over the FC Caracal ( also Divizia B) and led him twice to relegation. As of April 17, 2006 Ungureanu worked for the last seven games of the season 2005/ 06 for the gambling in Divizia A club Pandurii Târgu Jiu, he led the league in place of Viorel Hizo. He then became an assistant coach at Universitatea Craiova Ovidiu Stîngă, with which he, however, left the club again in September 2006.
