Nicolas de Pigage

Nicolas de Pigage ( born August 3, 1723 in Luneville, † 30 July 1796 in Schwetzingen ) was a Lorraine builder. As the son of a stonemason, he began in 1743 in Paris to study at the École Militaire and moved a year later at the Académie Royale d'Architecture, where he studied under Jacques -François Blondel. Elector Carl Theodor appointed him to the Palatinate Court in Mannheim, where he got in 1752 the office of chief building director.

Under the direction of Pigage Benrath castle was built from 1755 to 1773. During the construction Nicolas de Pigage 1762 appointed Director Kurpfälzische garden. Pigage was instrumental in the establishment of the residences in Mannheim and Schwetzingen with ( among others he built the Palace Theatre Schwetzingen and extended the nave of St. Pancras ). At the Mannheim Palace, he was entrusted with the construction of the east wing.

Moreover Pigage architect of Karlstors in Heidelberg, Speyer of the gate in Frankenthal (Pfalz ) and an estate of care Schönau. He built for the Kurpfälzer banker Franz Maria Schweitzer a palace on the Zeil in Frankfurt am Main.
