Nicolas Grenon

Nicholas Grenon (* 1380 /85 † October 17, 1456 in Cambrai ) was frankoflämischer composer, singer, music teacher and cleric.

Origin and life

Grenon is first detected in 1399 in the Paris churches of Notre Dame and Saint- Sepulchre as a cleric and a canon and successor of his deceased brother Jean Grenon. At Saint- Sepulchre, he was in 1401 subdeacon, deacon later.

From 1403 until May 25, 1407 he was magister puerorum at the Cathedral in Laon. 1408, and in 1409 he taught for a short time at the cathedral in Cambrai six choristers grammar and sang in the choir Vicair as petit.

In July 1409, he assumed the post of magister puerorum at the Sainte -Chapelle in Bourges, but changed before August 1, 1412 to the post of magister puerorum under the Burgundian duke John the Fearless. One of his tasks was to provide for the welfare of the choir boys and to give them music lessons. After the duke's death († September 10, 1419 ) Grenon left the Burgundian service. He went to Cambrai, where it is demonstrably 1421-1424.

The singer Gilles Flannel and 4 choirboys Grenon 1425 traveled through Bologna to Rome and became magister puerorum in the Pontifical Chapel. During this time (1424-1425) he was in absentia canons of Saint- Donatien in Bruges.

1427 Grenon returned back to Cambrai. For his livelihood was taken care of, because on February 7, 1426 he became a canon at Cambrai Cathedral. Work
