Nicolas Racot de Grandval

Nicolas de Racot Grandval, called " Le Père Grandval " (* 1676 in Paris, † November 16, 1753 ) was a French composer, harpsichordist and playwright.

Nicolas Racot was the son of actor and painter Daniel Racot de Grandval and Marguerite Poirier. Even in his childhood had Racot in the troupe with his parents. Through this activity, he met the actor and author Florent Carton Dancourt know at the Comédie - Française. In the years 1695 and 1696 Racot accompanied at the harpsichord, the majority of divertissements and court ballets that were given at the court of Versailles. Then Racot was organist at the Church of St -Eustache.

Racot created numerous vaudeville and set to music several plays for Dancourt and Marc -Antoine Legrand.

In addition to some burlesque comedy character with titles such as: Le pot de chambre casse, he wrote under the pseudonym Cartouchivandeck an almanac of proverbes pour l' année 1745, a collection of proverbs.

His son Charles -François de Racot Grandval was also an actor and playwright.
