Nicolay Nicolaysen

Nicolay Nicolaysen ( born January 14, 1817 in Bergen ( Norway), † January 22, 1911 in Kristiania ) was a Norwegian archaeologist and lawyer.

Nicolay Nicolaysen worked for the private Norwegian antiquity club Foreningen til norske Fortidsminnesmerkers Bevaring, which campaigned for the preservation of monuments and Norwegian, for example, many of the well-known Norwegian stave churches rescued before their demolition. He is best known for his excavation of the Gokstad ship and the line of translocation of the Gol Stave Church.
