Niddatal is a German city in the Wetterau district. It is one historically Upper Hesse. Through the city flows the Nidda.

Geography

Neighboring communities

Niddatal bordered to the north by the town of Friedberg, in the north- east on the town Florstadt, in the east on the community of Old Town and the city Nidderau ( Main- Kinzig- Kreis), in the south on the community of Schoeneck ( Main-Kinzig -Kreis) and the city Karben, and in the west on the community of Wöllstadt.

Niddatal consists of the districts of aces home, Bönstadt, Ilbenstadt and Kaichen.

History

Incorporations

On 1 December 1970, the city Aces home and the communities Bönstadt and Ilbenstadt were incorporated into the new city Niddatal. Kaichen was added on 31 December 1971.

The reigning since 2002, supported by the SPD nonpartisan mayor Bernhard Hertel sat down on 27 January 2008 at the first ballot by 60.7 % of the vote. To select competed four candidates, the voter turnout was 70.8 %.

  • In Bönstadt: recreational grounds, inter alia, with a large pond, fountain, Long transition
  • In Kaichen: The Steinern table, old courthouse square. As a free dish it belonged to no rule. Here, the jurisdiction was exercised in the name of the king. The Open Court was a criminal court and dealt with crimes that could only be atoned for by the death of the accused. It was also a court of appeal.
  • In Ilbenstadt: The monastery Ilbenstadt was founded in 1123 by Count Gottfried von Cappenberg here as a men's and a women's monastery ( Upper and Lower - Ilbenstadt ). This Premonstratensian monastery is the oldest spiritual office in the Wetterau. The first provost was Anthony, a disciple of St. Norbert. 1657 the monastery was the abbey. According to legend, there should have been an underground passage between the men's and the women's monastery. Based on this legend, the local collection of short stories The Ilbenstädter Decameron was created in 2005. The monastery was home from 1946 to 1979 a reform school for girls.
  • The old Ilbenstädter abbey and parish church of St. Mary, St. Peter and Paul Cathedral is also called the Wetterau. It was built in 1929 by Pope Pius XI. for minor basilica raised.
  • The pilgrimage church of St. Gangolf in the submerged village Sternbach was documented in the so-called Beatusurkunde mentioned 778 for the first time.
  • The Assenheimer grain elevator was in the 1940s the largest grain elevator in the whole of Europe and part of the shut down in the 1970s -roll mill. Even today is the 45 meter high tower, which was built on the former Mühlinsel, the storage of grain.
  • In the late 1960s, a bunker was built as a command center for civil protection and disaster Frankfurt. The bunker is located between the municipalities and Ilbenstadt Kaichen, about 300 meters outside of Ilbenstadt.

Infrastructure

  • Niddatal is connected through the station Aces home to the RMV transport network. Regional trains of DB Regio AG operate there Monday morning to Saturday evening approximately hourly or half-hourly in the direction Friedberg and Hanau. On Sundays the trains in a heavily thinned-out clock.
  • The former breakpoint Erbstadt - Kaichen, which belongs to the district Bönstadt, was in the 90's due to lack of profitability, given up, because by its distance from the two places.
