Nieden

Nieden is a municipality in the district of Vorpommern - Greifswald in eastern Mecklenburg -Vorpommern ( Germany ). It is administered by the Office of Uecker- Randow Valley with offices in the city Pasewalk.

Geography

The community Nieden, one of the smallest in the district, is located on the gentle slope of a terminal moraine, which stretches in a north-south direction on the east bank of Uecker. The location right on the border with Brandenburg is located about halfway between the cities of Pasewalk and Prenzlau.

History

For the documentary first mention of the place with Nedam the year 1121 is given. Since the 6th century was Nieden an important Slavic fortress. Nieden was repeatedly drawn by Polish armies affected. The Duke of Pomerania was a solid house, "dat fixed Hus to Nedam ," built to secure the Uckerfurt. As Brandenburg fiefs it was owned by the Lindstedt and by inheritance since 1600 in the possession of the Lords of Winter field. Originally the manor Nieden belonged together with the manors Schmarsow, Damerow, Spiegelberg, Rollwitz and Züsedom including the respective church patronage to a freight complex of the family von Winterfeld. The family built in Nieden instead of an old mansion still in the 1920s and historicizing, entirely composed of fieldstone castle, with considerable round tower and bell-like spire in a more comprehensive hectare park on the river Uecker. 1945 burned down the palace. From the family's lands are managed to this day.

On July 25, 1952 Nieden was removed together with other municipalities from the Brandenburg until 1945 the Prussian district Prenzlau and assigned to the circle Pasewalk in the district of Neubrandenburg.

In Nieden several clubs are located, for example, the Foundation for Church and village Nieden, the Fishing Club and the volunteer fire department.

  • Slavic Castle Wall: Already in the 6th to 12th century Slavic important administrative center. To secure the Uckerfurt the ducal Pomeranian Castellan had built a strong fortress "dat fixed Hus tu Nedam ". This fort was Nedam by the Polish king Boleslaw III. 1121 conquered and destroyed. This was reported by one of the biographies of Bishop Otto of Bamberg.
  • Evangelical late Romanesque church of boulders from the early 13th century, with mansard roof; quadr later. Truss tower with curly hood; south cultivation; Interior: painted wooden ceiling, bells of 1375, Renaissance altar from 1618, Baroque wooden pulpit from 1710 with Winterfeld'schem escutcheon, baptismal as baptismal from the 17th century, Baroque pews in the nave and the choir, silver sacrament trays of 1690, Green Mountain organ in the gallery. The restoration of 1911 was carried out according to plans by Bruno Taut and the painter Franz Mutzenbecher with expressionist elements.

Transport links

Along the Uecker Tales extend the rail and road connections ( B109 ) between Pasewalk and Prenzlau. The motorway exit Pasewalk -South of A 20 is 3 km away from the village. The nearby train station Nechlin ( part of the municipality Uckerland ) is located on the west side of Uecker in the Brandenburg district Uckermark. In Brandenburg, the river is called Ucker.
