The station of the municipality Niedernhausen im Taunus is the most important railway station on the Main -Lahn -Bahn between the stations Frankfurt- Höchst and Eschhofen to Limburg an der Lahn. It is the terminus of Ländchesbahn that leads from the main train station Niedernhausen the Hessian capital Wiesbaden as well as the terminus of line S2 S-Bahn Rhein- Main.

History

The low Bahnhof was the construction of the Main -Lahn -Bahn from Frankfurt to Limburg an der Lahn in 1877 by the Hessian Ludwig Railway. On October 15, 1877, last section of the route between Frankfurt- Höchst and Idstein was put into operation. The link between the Rhine -Main region and the Limburg Basin was thus ensured. With the opening of Ländchesbahn of Niedernhausen to Wiesbaden in 1879 Niedernhausen ( distance km: 31.80 ) rose the most important railway station between maximum and Eschhofen in Limburg, where the Main -Lahn -Bahn opens into the Lahn Valley Railway on. As a railway junction station of the Lower Hausen received a - now converted to a total of six Lofts - roundhouse with a turntable, a water tower, a coal bunker and sidings for the operation of steam locomotives. Engine shed and water tower are now a protected monument. 1880 was the first station building, which was replaced on 1 January 1906, a prestigious new building. The station was instrumental in the recovery of the hitherto little village and its neighboring communities. This from the turn of the century to the health resort erkorene Niedernhausen could now be arriving its spa guests comfortably by train. 1913 was replaced with the construction of the second track of the railway crossing to the neighboring community Königshofen by a modern railway bridge.

During World War II the station was target of several air attacks. In the most serious of them were on 22 February 1945, the station building, large parts of the railway tracks, destroyed about 30 parked locomotives and dozens of cars. After the war, reconstruction began. There was a new reception building with interlocking. The number of railway staff increased to 100 persons. The transfer of freight on trucks later led to the closure of the freight office of the station. With the end of the steam era in October 1973, the unused facilities were dismantled. On August 25, 1975, the S- Bahn Rhein -Main started its operations; it was Niedernhausen terminus of line S2. From 1978, she went to the main station in the new Frankfurt S-Bahn tunnel to the station. 1983, the Frankfurt S-Bahn tunnel was extended until at station, 1990 to South Station. 1993 drove the S2 to station mill mountain, before finally the tunnel in Offenbach and 2003 Rodgau S-Bahn opened up Dietzenbach. The continuous electrification of the line up to Limburg was completed in 1988. Since 2004, the Ländchesbahn is served by the Vectus traffic mbH. Prior to the reception building is the central bus station (ZOB ) in the municipality.

During the construction phase of the high-speed line Cologne-Rhine/Main a track out of the station led at times to the high-speed line. This temporary connection is used for track construction on the track. It inclines of up to 55 per thousand had to be overcome.

  • Track 6 ( platform track 5/6): Stadt-Express/Regional-Express Frankfurt main station; Vectus direction Wiesbaden ( coming from Limburg ) ( platform height: 76 cm, length of platform: 259 m)
  • Track 7: Transit track for freight trains from Limburg (usually trains from Eaos loaded with sound)
  • Tracks 8-10: sidings, used by the Vectus transport company and the S- Bahn Rhein -Main
  • Track 11: operationally closed and connected only with a switch at the southern station head

Bus station

Lower Bahnhof is one of the central hubs in Idstein country and is served by the Wiesbaden-based urban traffic and two regional bus lines:

  • 22: Oberjosbach - Niedernhausen - WI- Naurod - Wiesbaden Place d Dt. Unit / Wiesbaden Hauptbahnhof ( ESWE )
  • 231: Low- Hausen - Waldems - Wüstems ( RTV): This line includes the community Waldems end to the S -Bahn Rhein- Main.
  • 240: King Mayrhofen - Niedernhausen - Neuhof - Hahn ( - Wiesbaden Hauptbahnhof) ( RTV)

The journeys of the regional bus lines ( 231 and 240) are operated by the ORN Omnibusverkehr Rhein-Nahe GmbH or its subcontractors. In addition, runs twice a day on school days, a bus line 220 ​​( Idstein - Niedernhausen - Oberjosbach ) to Engenhahn.
