History

In 1138 Niederwallmenach is first mentioned. In ancient records we find the name Walmelach. Perhaps this name comes from Valiniacum and means of Valinius estate. From this we may deduce well that a Roman settlement existed here once. The oldest preserved document is on October 21, 1138 under the government of the then Roman emperor and German king Conrad III. issued by Hohenstaufen. In this document also the tithe of Walmelach is mentioned, which was given to the monastery of St. Goar.

The community Niederwallmenach belonged to the "Setup Gau ". The district comprised roughly the area between the Rhine, Lahn, Aar and Wisper. The Chronicle reports:

Philipp of Isenburg and BTA sold anno 1414 its villages Niederwallmenach and Reitzenhain for 1,100 florins to Count Philip of Nassau- Saarbrücken. This but sold the same already in 1416 for 1,200 florins to Count Johann III. of Katzenelenbogen.

So Niederwallmenach thus belonged to the lower county Katzenelenbogen, to the Official Reichenberg and formed with Reitzenhain, the yard surge in Nastaetten, the castle Heppenheim book, later Heppenhof, the court Niederwallmenach. As in 1479 died the last Count of Katzenelenbogen Philip, his country fell by the husband of his daughter Anna, the Landgrave Henry III. of Hesse. This one came to Hesse and belonged to that by the year 1806. From 1806 to 1813 was the lower county under French administration. Through the liberation war France lost the German states again.

The lower county Katzenelenbogen came in 1813 Hesse-Cassel back. 1815 Prussia and 1816 to Nassau, so was of Nassau. During the war in 1866, Nassau was put back in possession of Prussia. The Duchy of Nassau was no longer an independent state and the " Lion of Nassau " has prevailed thus at 50 years over the village Niederwallmenach.
