Niels Aagaard

Niels Lauritsen Aagaard (* 1612 in Viborg ( Jutland ); † January 22, 1657 ) was a Danish writer and scholar.

Life

The brothers Niels and Christians were the sons of a preacher to Viborg. After completing his studies at the University of Copenhagen Niels Aagaard traveled to broaden his knowledge the most important European countries. When he returned to Denmark, he worked first as a Protestant minister and temporarily as principal of a school. Since 1647 he was professor of eloquence and since 1650 also a librarian at the Academy in Soro. He wrote numerous poems, Latin and Greek as well as critical and philological writings in Latin smaller, among other things, Tacitus, Ammianus Marcellinus and the style of the New Testament. He has also written the political treatise De Optima regendae Reipublicae format ( Soro 1653).
