Geography
Location
The community Niemetal which is located west of Dransfeld is between Bramwald in the west and Dransfelder urban forest in the east. All the districts - Varlosen, Imbsen, Löwenhagen and Ellershausen before the forest - are traversed by the Nieme (small tributary of the Weser). Niemetal is surrounded by the natural park Munden.

History
On January 1, 1973, the municipality Niemetal was newly formed by the merger of the municipalities Ellershausen at Munden, Imbsen, Löwenhagen and Varlosen.

Niemetal is the seat of the Evangelical Lutheran St. Michaelis church Niemetal - Bühren, which was formed on 1 January 2011 from the former St. Michaelis church Niemetal and the Evangelical Lutheran church Bühren.
