Nienwohld

Nienwohld ( Low German Nienwoold ) is a municipality in the district Stormarn in Schleswig-Holstein. The municipality belongs to the district Nienwohldrögen.

Geography and transport

Nienwohld is located about eight kilometers northwest of Bargteheide. The Old Alster flows through the community.

History

1256 the village was first mentioned as Nova Silva. The name means New Forest.

The lying on the surface of the congregation raised bog peat Nienwohlder is since 1982 a nature reserve. In the former restaurant of the place, the organization Youth for Understanding entertained by 2005 a training center for prospective exchange students and foreign students who spent their exchange year in Germany.

Policy

Since the local elections of 2008, the voters Community WGN has all nine seats of the municipal council.
