Nieuwe Kerk (The Hague)

The Nieuwe Kerk ( New Church ) is a church in the Dutch city of The Hague.

History

After the Grote Kerk no longer offered enough space, was started in 1649 with the construction of the Nieuwe Kerk in The Hague.

Designed by Pieter Noorwits and in 1656 completed construction is considered to be a highlight of the early Protestant church architecture in the Netherlands. He is a central building, which consists of two interconnected octagonal buildings, at the interface, the pulpit was erected. Stylistically, let elements of the Renaissance as well as classicism find.

In 1969, the church was closed and reopened after a long renovation as a concert hall.

In the church is the grave of the philosopher Baruch Spinoza.

Concert organ

The organ in 1702 by organ builder Johannes Duyschot (Amsterdam ) built as a three-manual instrument with attached pedal. In the years 1866-1867 a new organ was installed in the historic housing, partly pipe material Duyschot the organ was used. 1976-1977, the instrument has been completely restored and equipped with its own pedal work.
