Nieuwerkerke

Nieuwerkerke (also: 't Schutje ) is a village, which now belongs to the municipality of Schouwen- Duiveland on the homonymous island in the Dutch province of Zeeland. It is located between Brouwer Haven and Kerkwerve.

The village was first mentioned in 1298. The Gothic church of Nieuwerkerke was a daughter of founding Kerkwerve. Until 1813 Nieuwerkerke was a separate municipality, then this was merged with Kerkwerve. The church was laid in the 18th century. The tower initially preserved as a ruin in 1820 demolished.

Nieuwerkerke should not be with Nieuwerkerk, a larger village on the island of Schouwen- Duiveland confused.
