Nigel Davenport

Arthur Nigel Davenport ( * May 23, 1928 in Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, † October 25, 2013 ) was a British actor.

Life

Davenport came from a family of academics and wanted to study after leaving school philosophy, politics and economics, changed his enrollment on the advice of his tutors, but on the subject English. He was a student at Oxford together with Tony Richardson, John Schlesinger and Kenneth Tynan member of the Oxford University Dramatic Society and then went to the theater as an actor. First, he was in the " Savoy Theatre" and then with the "Shakespeare Memorial Company" on the stage before he belonged to the early 1960s at the Royal Court Theatre to the ensemble. After a few television appearances, he made his film debut in 1959 with a very small role in look back in anger. Other supporting roles as in The Entertainer or eyes fear followed. His breakthrough as a film actor he had in 1966 with A Man for All Seasons by Fred Zinnemann. He played in this historical film the Duke of Norfolk. Davenport was of great stature and therefore often often cast as a typical British nobles, police inspector or military officer, with winking charm in numerous films. Other notable representations can be found as Lord Bothwell in Mary Stuart, Queen of Scotland, the animal film Living Free in 1972 and the failed at the box office unusual phase IV In 1986 he joined the television classic The Last Viceroy as General Lord Ismay next to Nicol Williamson. At the beginning of the new millennium, Davenport withdrew from active acting when he was having trouble with the memorization of texts.

Nigel Davenport is the father of actor Jack Davenport and Laura Davenport.
