Nigel Stepney

Nigel Stepney ( born November 14, 1958 in Ufton ) is a former chief mechanic and team coordinator at the Formula 1 team Ferrari.

Life

Stepney trained as a car mechanic in the Broadspeed racing team, established the touring car for the ETCC. When the team came in the late 1970s in financial difficulty, Stepney was as a mechanic for Shadow in Formula 1 where he met Elio de Angelis know, whom he succeeded in 1980 as the race engineer for Lotus. After de Angelis ' Changing to Brabham in 1986 Stepney stayed with Lotus and worked with Ayrton Senna.

1988 Stepney went to Benetton, where he worked under his former Lotus team manager Peter Collins. In 1991, Stepney to an offer from Nelson Piquet to work in the Formula 3000 in the newly formed team Piquet Racing. The team was unsuccessful and the end of Stepney changed at the request of John Barnard, whom he knew from his time at Benetton, as a team coordinator to Ferrari. He was discharged in the wake of spy scandal between McLaren and Ferrari, 2007. He was accused of having passed secret information to the Ferrari team to the McLaren chief designer Mike Coughlan.
