Nigerien parliamentary election, 1965

The parliamentary elections in Niger in 1965 took place on 21 October 1965. Elected were the fifty deputies of the National Assembly of Niger.

Background

The Parliament of Niger was last used in elections to the territorial assembly in 1958. All the seats had gone to the Nigerien Progressive Party (PPN - RDA), which was formed as a single party. The Territorial Assembly was as late as 1958 to the Constituent Assembly, 1959 to the Legislative Assembly, and finally in 1960 to the National Assembly. As such, she accompanied Niger in the same year in which independence from France.

The 1965 parliamentary elections were neither free nor competitive. It merely authorized candidates of a PPN RDA list. President Hamani Diori (PPN - RDA) had been recently confirmed in the presidential elections on 30 September 1965, as in office.

Results

From 1,709,605 registered voters went to the polls officially 1679196. This corresponds to a voter turnout of 98.2 %. 1,677,763 ballots (99.9 %) were considered valid and counted 1,433 ( 0.1%) as invalid.

Boubou Hama ( PPN - RDA) was President of the Parliament of the National Assembly. The legislature took as provided for five years up to the parliamentary elections on 22 October 1970.
