Nigun

Niggun ( pl. Niggunim ) [ Hebrew: ניגון ] is a Hebrew term for melody. [In the Yiddish language: Nign ]. Usually, the term refers to religious songs and tunes that are sung by groups. The melodies are often without any text or words, although sounds like " bim - bim - bam" or " Ai -ai -ai " are frequently used. Sometimes Bible verses or quotes from other classical Jewish texts are sung repeatedly in the form of a Niggun. Niggunim are largely improvisations, though they may be based on a topic and are stylized in form. Niggunim can be sung as a lament both prayer and have a cheerful character.
