Nihilist (Band)

Nihilist was a Swedish death metal band.

History

The band was formed in 1987 by Nicke Andersson later Entombed members and Alex Hellid and bassist Leif " Leffe " Cuzner. At first they called themselves Sons of Satan, after the eponymous song by Venom, and changed the name out loud Andersson often than they rehearsed. Her last name before the name change to Nihilist was Brainwarp. In March 1988, the band recorded in the studio in Stockholm Premature Autopsy Z; as a singer is stated on the supplement of the demo recording Mattias Boström, who not participated in the recordings. Andersson no longer remembers the backgrounds, suspected, however, that Bostrom came shortly after admission to Nihilist and was therefore listed with, but never really sang in the band and never occurred to her. He suspects that Morbid drummer Lars Göran "LG " Petrov the song completely took over ( Petrov and Ulf " Uffe " Cederlund, also at Morbid, are indicated on each of the supplement as a guest singer or guitarist ).

On 8 and 16 December 1988, the band in Tomas Skogsbergs Sunlight Studio Only Shreds Remain took on; Cuzner now played second guitar, the bass took over Johnny Hedlund and Petrov singing. Shortly after the recording had to leave the band when his parents moved to Canada Cuzner. As a replacement was Cederlund whose band Morbid had dissolved, a permanent member.

In August 1989, the band recorded two pieces that appeared on a demo recording entitled Drowned and a single of the same name. In the same year, the band broke up. Hedlund founded Unleashed, the remaining members formed a week after the release of the band Nihilist Entombed. A planned EP with nihilist, Paradise Lost, Bolt Thrower and Carcass, who wanted to publish Metalion and for the song Morbid Devourment recorded was, never materialized.

Music style and meaning

The band released three demo recordings, but one of the important Death Metal representatives. It developed from an initially rather thrash-metal-/hardcore-orientierten sound with Slayer reminiscences to a darker sound and death metal riffs; for the development in the direction of death metal influence the band Autopsy was probably responsible. The Nihilist recordings coined the Sunlight Studio sound that is typical of the band sound of the guitars came with Only Shreds Remain by Leif " Leffe " Cuzner, which returns it to its Hagström amplifier. Andersson returns the sound to Cuzners BOSS Distortion Pedal and there untwisted effects, whereby the midtones were strengthened.

The Nihilist recordings were released on bootlegs for years, until they were officially re-released by Threeman Recordings. The publication contained, among other things, the song Morbid Devourment and the first Entombed demo recording But Life Goes On.
