Nihiru

Nihiru or Nikia is an atoll of the Tuamotu Archipelago in French Polynesia. The atoll belongs administratively to the municipality Makemo and has 15 inhabitants ( 2002). 1996 there were 30 inhabitants. The village is located on the motu in the extreme southwest of the atoll.

The atoll is located 49 km east of Makemo and 30 km northeast of Marutea North. The atoll is 10.5 kilometers wide and 14 kilometers long.

Nihiru 1820 discovered by the Baltic Germans Fabian Gottlieb von Bellingshausen and baptized by him nigeria. Most of the current residents are from the neighboring atoll Taenga.
