The Niigata Station (Japanese新泻 駅, Niigata -eki ) is located in the district of Chūō the Japanese city of Niigata in Niigata Prefecture.
Opened on May 3, 1904 Station closes, southeast of the city of Niigata and is located in the district of Bandai, one of the oldest parts of the city of Niigata. Is operated farms and three regional and one Shinkansen Line of Niigata Station of JR East. The station is used by approximately 36,849 daily passengers ( 2007).
Type
The station has seven walk-in tracks for the regional and night trains, which are connected by bridges. During track 1 is directly accessible from the railway station, the tracks are 2 /3, 4/5 and 6/ 7 in insularity.
The station building in its present appearance dates back to the late 1950s.
During the construction of the Joetsu Shinkansen, terminating in Niigata, was until 1982 the southeast parallel to the existing railway station is a Shinkansen stop with four tracks. This area was - as almost the entire shinkansen route - run elevated, so that it projects beyond the existing station facility.

Environment
North West of the station, the district Bandai follows, where several shopping centers and office buildings are located. At Bandai joins the west to the Shinanogawa the district Furumatchi, in which also a variety of shops and office buildings (including the 125 m high NEXT21 ) are located.
South-east of the station is a large car park and a shopping center ( " Plaka "). The city structure south of the station is dissected dispersed and has little urban qualities.
