Niki Tsongas

Nicola Dickson Sauvage " Niki " Tsongas ( born April 26, 1946 in Chico, California) is an American politician. Since 2007, she represented the state of Massachusetts in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Nicola Dickson Sauvage, so her maiden name, attended until 1964 the Narimasu American High School in Japan, where her father was stationed as a soldier of the United States Air Force. Later she studied at Michigan State University in East Lansing and then to 1968 at Smith College in Northampton. After a subsequent law degree from Boston University and their admission to the bar, she began to work in this profession. In the meantime, she also worked as a social worker. Between 1997 and 2007 she was Head of Department of Foreign Affairs at Middlesex Community College. She married Congressman and later Senator Paul Tsongas ( 1941-1997 ). Politically, she joined the Democratic Party.

Following the resignation of Mr Marty Meehan Niki Tsongas was at the due election for the fifth seat from Massachusetts as his successor in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where they took up their new mandate on October 16, 2007. After it was confirmed in each case at the next elections, they can exercise their mandate in Congress today. She is a member of the Budget Committee and the Armed Services Committee.
