Nikka Costa
Nikka Costa ( born June 4, 1972 in Tokyo as Domenica Costa) is an American singer and songwriter. She is the daughter of the late guitarist, arranger and record producer Don Costa.
Life
Nikka Costa was born in Tokyo, when her father just a guest there at a music festival. She grew up in Los Angeles, where she soon got in touch with the music through the activities of her father. Already in 1981 she took her first single in Italy ( Out Here ) On My Own on, a song from the musical film Fame ). The song was produced by her father Don Costa, who accompanied them on the guitar. The single reached top spots in the charts in several European countries. In the same year she released her first album Nikka Costa, similar met with great success. Both plates, and other single- compilations taken from the album were released only in Europe and South America.
Your one and only until 2001 record release in the U.S. was in 1982 which also arranged by her father and produced single To Love a Child (Reprise), a duet with her godfather, Frank Sinatra, for whom her father since 1961 regularly as an arranger and orchestra leader had worked. Also in 1982 she appeared in front of 300,000 spectators in the opening act of the group The Police in concert in Chile and thus strengthened their popularity in South America.
After the death of Don Costa in January 1983, the Nikka Costa discussed in 2005 in the song Fatherless Child, released their second album Fairy Tales ( Cuentos de Hadas ), which was also arranged by her father in Europe and South America. After that Nikka Costa withdrew for a few years in the music business before them in Europe the album Here I Am (Yes, It's Me ) brought out in 1989, which contains, among other things, a duet with Pierre Cosso to Do not Cry. Costa published this album also in a Spanish version entitled Loca Tentación, which was released in South America. In 1990, she appeared with the song All for the Love, the English version of the play Vattene Amore from Mietta and Amadeo Minghi ), on the Sanremo Festival in Italy.
In the early 1990s, Nikka Costa moved for a few years to Australia, where in 1996 her album Butterfly Rocket brought out, which made it into the top 20 of the Australian charts and earned her a nomination for best young artist at the annual prize awarded by the Australian Recording Industry. In the same year the concert recording Live at the Bridge was built. In the late 1990s Costa then moved back to the U.S..
2001 Costa came with the album Everybody Got Their Something ( Virgin ) in the United States, the breakthrough as a singer and songwriter. For the song Just Because, she worked together with the soul singer Billy Preston; for the song Like a Feather in the same year she was nominated at the MTV Video Music Awards for the award in the category "Best Young Performer in a music video ". Your song is also included on the album, written with her husband, Push and Pull, she presented in 2003 to a Prince concert in Las Vegas. In the same year, Costa was also heard on the album Here Comes the Fuzz by Mark Ronson with the same title.
In 2005, the album was followed Can'tneverdidnothin ' (Virgin ), with whom she continued to develop her musical style between Rhythm & Blues, Soul and Funk. It is accompanied, among others, in the play Till I Get to You by Lenny Kravitz on drums, with whom she went on tour together in spring 2005. Lenny Kravitz contributed additional guitar and bass parts in, along with the well-known from his band guitarist Craig Ross.
In 2006 she took with singer Van Hunt on the duet Mean Sleep, which can be heard on Van Hunt's album On the Jungle Floor. In the same year, the two title If I Had No Loot took with Sam Moore for his album Overnight Sensational.
On 14 October 2008 was released the album Pebble to a Pearl, which was later released in Europe and Australia in America. On the European version of the album is a bonus track is present, the Costa published in 2007, on their MySpace page; it is a cover of the song The Denial Twist by The White Stripes.
From late May to mid-July 2010 Costa occurred in the Funhouse Summer Carnival - successful tour with the singer Pink. These early June Ching Ching Ching, the single was released. In Germany it was her first chart success since ( Out Here ) On My Own. Furthermore acted Nikka Costa in 2010 as a backing singer Eric Clapton Clapton on the album and also wrote to his song Diamonds Made from Rain.
Family
Nikka Costa is married since 1992 with songwriter Justin Stanley, who has since been largely produced their record releases and written some songs with her. Together they have a daughter who was born in September 2006. Currently the family lives in Los Angeles.
