Niklaus Gerber

Niklaus Gerber ( born June 8, 1850 in Thun, † February 9, 1914 in Zurich ) was a Swiss chemist.

Niklaus Gerber studied chemistry in Bern and Zurich. After a stay abroad in the United States in 1892, he developed the Acidbutyrometrie, a rapid method for determination of fat in dairy products, and the butyrometers. He was besides Rudolf Schatzmann one of the great pioneers in the Swiss dairy industry.

In 1903 he founded the Dr. N. Gerber 's Acidbutyrometrie Co.m.bH Leipzig and Zurich. This company still exists today under the name Gerber Instruments AG in Effretikon, Switzerland.
