Nikola Tesla Museum

The Nikola Tesla Museum (Serbian Музеј Николе Тесле / Muzey Nikole Tesle ) is a museum in memory of the inventor and electrical engineer Nikola Tesla in the Serbian capital Belgrade. In the museum there is also the urn Tesla and a large part of his estate. For this reason, the archive of the museum is entered in the list of world cultural heritage list.

History

The museum is housed in a formerly built for residential purposes villa in the district of Belgrade Vračar. The building was designed by the Serbian architect Dragiša Brašovan and built in 1929. Before it was in 1952 determined the location of the Nikola Tesla Museum, it served several purposes. The decision on the establishment of the museum was taken by the Government of the FVR Yugoslavia after 1951, the estate of Nikola Tesla, who had never visited the former Serbia, had been awarded by a U.S. court his nephew Sava Kosanović and transferred to Belgrade. The museum was finally opened on 5 December 1952.

On April 5, 2008, a model of Tesla fountain developed by him was opened on a small park on the street corner opposite the museum.

Exhibitions

In addition to periodically changing exhibitions, the ground floor houses a permanent exhibition on the one hand illustrates the life of Nikola Tesla with many personal items. In other rooms there are several functional exhibits that will bring the visitor close to Tesla's inventions. In a video room, a 15 - minute film about the life and work of Nikola Tesla is shown at regular intervals.

Archives

In the upper floor of the museum Nikola Tesla Archive is housed. It houses approximately 160,000 original documents, books and magazines in 2000, 1200 exhibits the history of technology, 1500 photographs, photographic plates, instruments and equipment, and in 1000 plans and drawings. Because of the importance of the work of Nikola Tesla for the development of electrical engineering and the large number of overlapping in the building documents from his life the archive in 2003 was entered into the list of world cultural heritage list.
